Migration has become a hot topic in European societies. In the political and societal debate, migration and development cooperation are often associated and linked to each other. To suggest alternative perspectives and to propose more constructive narratives on the topic, Partos and OneWorld invited changemakers, NGOs, researchers, journalists, thinkers and artists from all over the world, to submit their innovative and creative ideas concerning the Future of Migration. Based on a number of selected submissions, Partos. OneWorld, FMS and Cordaid are organising a special event on The Future of Migration & Development. This event is aimed at member organisations and enriched by the contributions of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. It is meant to share knowledge, inspire and elaborate new possible directions on migration and development cooperation. Join us to create cross-sectoral connections and contribute to this conversation.

14:00 hrs | Welcome by moderator Bahram Sadeghi, introduction by Bart Romijn (Partos) & Seada Nourhussen (OneWorld), Poetry Contribution from Zuleika Sheik.

14:20 hrs | Plenary penal with Bikash Chowdhury Barua, Ton Dietz, Bob van Dillen and Milka Yemane on the future of migration and development cooperation. Which role and position can NGOs take on this topic and how to work constructively with stakeholders like diasporas and networks of migrants?
14:45 hrs | Creative contributions amongst others by Olave Nduwanje and Emma Parker.
15:05 hrs | Pitches about the themes of the 5 dialogue tables: Framing, Migrants in the lead, Circular migration, Hosting refugees in the region and Youth employment.

1. Framing migration | Wilde Ganzen, OneWorld | Which stories, narratives and language do we want and need to use in our work and in our communication about migration & development?
2. Migrants in the lead | Anila Noor, Qader Shafiq, Oxfam Novib | Migrants want to take the lead in discussions and solutions. How can we work constructively and what role can NGOs play?
3. Circular migration | FMS | How can we ensure more circular migration and let it become safer and more humane? How can NGOs contribute to this?
4. Hosting refugees in the region | Özge Bilgili, Cordaid | What can NGOs and governments learn from experiences in Rwanda, Curacao and Bonaire regarding hosting refugees in the region?
5. Youth employment & migration | Civic Engagement Alliance | Can youth employment contribute to reducing forced migration?

De Toekomst van Migratie en Ontwikkeling

Migratie is een belangrijk maatschappelijk thema dat de komende jaren alleen maar in belang zal toenemen. Vaak wordt ontwikkelingssamenwerking en migratie aan elkaar gekoppeld in het politieke en maatschappelijke debat. Ook de rol van ontwikkelingsorganisaties en hun activiteiten worden nogal eens verbonden aan het migratievraagstuk. Om vernieuwende ideeën en visies op de toekomst van migratie en ontwikkeling op te halen, nodigden Partos en OneWorld deze zomer changemakers, ngo’s, onderzoekers, journalisten, denkers en kunstenaars uit om hun innovatieve en creatieve ideeën te delen over de toekomst van migratie.

Op basis van een aantal geselecteerde inzendingen organiseren Partos, OneWorld, FMS en Cordaid een bijeenkomst op dinsdag 24 september ‘s middags, over De Toekomst van Migratie en Ontwikkeling. Dit evenement, gericht op ledenorganisaties van Partos en verrijkt met de bijdragen van belanghebbenden met verschillende achtergronden, is bedoeld om kennis te delen, te inspireren en nieuwe mogelijke richtingen uit te werken over migratie en ontwikkelingssamenwerking. Wat is de toekomst van migratie en welke rol speelt ontwikkelingssamenwerking in deze zin? Welke samenwerking is mogelijk tussen NGO’s en andere belanghebbenden, waaronder diaspora organisaties en migrantennetwerken? Welke woorden, verhalen en taal willen we gebruiken in ons werk en lobby rond migratie?

Het programma

14:00 uur | Welkom door de dagvoorzitter Bahram Sadeghi, gevolgd door een introductie door Seada Nourhussen (OneWorld) en Bart Romijn (Partos) en een creatieve bijdrage van Zuleika Sheik.

14:20 uur | Plenair debat met Milka Yemane, Bikash Chowdhury Barua, Ton Dietz en Bob van Dillen over de toekomst van migratie en ontwikkelingssamenwerking, en de rol en posities van maatschappelijke organisaties, inclusief migranten en diaspora.

14:45 uur | Creatieve bijdragen door o.a. Olave Nduwanje en Emma Parker.

15:30 uur | 5 ronde tafel gesprekken

1. Framing van migratie | Wilde Ganzen, OneWorld | Over verhalen, taal, woorden en narratief die we (willen) gebruiken in onze communicatie over migratie en ontwikkeling.
2. Migranten hebben de leiding | Anila Noor, Qader Shafiq, Oxfam Novib | Migranten willen de leiding hebben in discussies en gesprekken over migratie uitdagingen en oplossingen. Hoe kan dat op een constructieve manier?
3. Circulaire migratie | FMS | Hoe kan circulaire migratie bevorderd worden en hoe kan dit veiliger en humaner. Welke rol kunnen maatschappelijke organisaties daarbij spelen?
4. Opvang in de regio | Özge Bilgili, Marugia Janga, Cordaid | Wat kunnen overheden en maatschappelijke organisaties leren van opvang van Congolese vluchtelingen in Rwanda? Hoe worden Venezolaanse vluchtelingen op Curaçao en Bonaire opgevangen?
5. Jeugd werkgelegenheid en migratie | Civic Engagement Alliance | Kan Jeugd werkgelegenheid bijdragen aan het terugdringen van gedwongen migratie?

16:25 uur | Reflectie op de uitkomsten van de 5 ronde tafel gesprekken. Op welke vragen en uitdagingen hebben we antwoorden en oplossingen gevonden, en welke nieuwe vormen van samenwerking zijn nodig?

16:45 uur | Video contributie door Malique Mohamud. Suggesties door Seada Nourhussen en Bart Romijn over mogelijke vervolgstappen.
